I am the executive editor at the Economist’s 1843 magazine, where I edit features. Previously, I worked as the deputy editor of Harper’s Magazine, and I have a PhD in English literature with a focus on Romantic and Victorian poetry.

Occasionally, I do my own writing—mostly on literary history and the outdoors—and it can be found at places like Harper’s, Outside, the Oxford American, and Lapham’s Quarterly.

If you have a feature pitch for 1843, please reach out: matthewsherrill@economist.com
